Two required configurations? (Swap file of a VM) vs. (Paging file in OS)

Hi,

Does it require to configure Windows Paging file (eg. setup an extra virtual disk for it) in addition to VM SWAP file configuration?

My assumption is by configuring VM Swap file during the creation of a VM, it does not require to look after Paging file inside of Windows OS.

Thank you for any advice in advance.

The size of pagefile inside the guest OS is an question more related to OS than VMware, anyway the size of swap file will depend of the size of assign RAM memory and if the workload is requiring all memory assigned.

Take a look at this note from Microsoft KB:

Thank you. this means for say a VM performance troubleshooting we should consider both factors: checking VM Swap and OS Paging?

Yes, you can configure an alternative swap file location.

Check if the following VMware KB article helps:

Configure a Virtual Machine Swap File Location for a Cluster

Configure Virtual Machine Swapfile Properties for the Host
