We have a Windows 2003 based SQL Server cluster with only 1 member. We did a successful P2V such that all disks are now .vmdk files.
This exact case is not covered in the Kb articles that I can find. We need the ability to transfer the SQL Server storage to a different storage unit, preferably with Storage vMotion.
Does anyone actually know if we can do this? Our guess is that we can but the server is critical and the drives are too large to take the system down for a cold clone to test with.
Found the answer. We setup a test environment and it failed. The Kb article is right.
If this is only a single member and you have all VMDKs (no pRDMs), is there some reason you think you cannot use svMotion?
There is a KB out that says the vMotion is not supported for SQL Clusters.
