Storage DRS unable to move independent disks

Dear Community

In our environment we enabled storage DRS but we get the below message for some servers

" storage drs is unable to move independent disks"

from the vmware documentation , i see the below statement  . What exactly does Relocation mean  ?

  • If the disk is an independent disk, Storage DRS is disabled, except in the case of relocation or clone placement.

Mate,

You might not be able vMotion any storage disk which is independent & non-persistent.

Either change the persistency of the independent disk or make it as a dependent one.

If you still want to move the disk to another datastore, then relocate by powering the vm off.

This will work as cold migration.

Thank You Aravind for the quick help  🙂

the independent disks i am talking about is "Independent-Persistent"  . So should storage drs work for  them  by default ?

So relocation is nothing but cold migration . It is again granular right  ?  i can move few disks and not all  right  ?

Here normal migration process comes, mate.

If multiple independent disks are attached with the vm then, those can be migrated.

Have a try on more options you find 🙂
