Setup a small datacenter for a university

Hi all,

I am new to Vmware environment and I would like to build a small  datacenter for hosting web server and database. I have two DELL servers and I would like to virtualize the servers and create a backup in case somethings went wrong. Is there any recommendations for the license type and software that can help with performing the following:

1- Centralized management

2- Crating VPS Servers

 3- Backup and Replication

4- Connecting to Network Storage.

Hi,

I have build for a company so small SDDC. if you will not pay much I can suggest you the vSphere Essentials Kit (https://store-us.vmware.com/vmware-vsphere-essentials-kit-5653279100.html). It doesn't have much but as a low cost starting package is it OK. It include also the vCenter and you can use there also NFS or iSCSI to connect to the NAS to share data to both hosts.

If you need more like HA for VPS then its the best starting option the vSphere Essentials Plus Kit (https://store-us.vmware.com/vmware-vsphere-essentials-plus-kit-5653279400.html).

vSphere has includes some backup and replications tools but when you will more backup I will suggest you to test the Veam Backup & Replication Community edition (https://www.veeam.com/downloads.html?ad=menu-support).

All is on you how many will you spent to your SDDC. Only what I can suggest you more is that you will use 3 hosts if its possible for better HA and DRS if you choose go this way.

Hello,

I recommend to take a look about the public clouds. especially for the multi-cloud strategy for VMware and the availability on almost of the bigger players in that domain (MS Azure, Google, AWS, ... etc)

If my reply was helpful, I kindly ask you to like it and mark it as a solution
