Rsync from VMware host to NAS via linux for backup of the VMs.

Hi.

I'm using ESXi 6.7 on the free licence. Since it's free I'm not able to schedule any automatic backups of the VMs on the host.

I've figured out that I could possibly enable SSH, setup a linux VM and create a siple daily rsync task from esxi to external drive via this VM. Just to backup whole .datastore with VM files.

I was able to setup Debian distribution, generate ssh-key and pass it to the ESXi host without any problems.

But..

I'm not able to login via ssh without password, even tho the key has been passed. Beacuse of that I'm also not able to execute rsync task.

Any clues/ideas? Is it even possible or am I lost in this fight before it even started? :smileysilly:

Maybe there is other method to automate the backups on the free license?

Cheers!
