Reset VMware ESXi root password

I Can´t Reset the root password.

One of my friend called me yesterday to help him to recover the password

You won't be able to recover the password, but using host profiles you can reset it to something new. There's also a VIB I saw recently that allows you to reset it, but that, I believe, requires a host reboot.

Is it a standalone host, or is it managed by vCenter Server? In case it's a managed host, which versions (vCenter, and ESXi) are being used?
