Reconnecting NFS4.1 datastores after host boots without them

After a power outage, my ESXi hosts are set to come back online after my NAS has booted so that NFS4.1 datastores are active and all VMs can boot.

Unfortunately, Synology have caused an issue with NFS 4.1 on older RS NAS units in DSM 7 so I have to use a hack to enable 4.1. This hack doesn't always work at boot and requires a NFS restart afterwards to make 4.1 work. This means that NFS 4.1 datastores are unmounted and inactive on the host and all VMs unable to boot.

I'd really like a way of just telling the datastores to mount rather than having to reboot the host or remove and add the datastore.

Both the esxcfg-nas and esxcli methods for removing and adding the datastores cause them to be orphaned from vCenter, even with the same datastore name. The VMs become invalid.

I've also tried esxcfg-nas -r which seems like it should work.

Any ideas?

Many thanks,

James
