Hi,

Did you rebuild initramfs as well? Like is described here: https://communities.vmware.com/t5/VMware-Workstation-Player/piix4-smbus-0000-00-07-3-Host-SMBus-cont...

Alternatively you can do what everyone does and ignore this notification (it's not really an error).

How can I edit blacklist.conf if I never get to see a desktop?

So I'm looking at the time-stamped log entry looking lines of text, ending with "[sda] Assuming drive cache write-through". When you say "everyone ignores this", do you mean that if I wait for a long time-out I'll be granted access to the ubuntu desktop?

Hi,

If you never get to see a desktop - whereas normally you would get a desktop, then you have another problem.

This particular error has nothing to do with that. There has never been a virtualized SMBus controller in VMware, this error/warning is just saying that it can't find that.. and that is expected.

FYI I have the same problem, the boot sequence hangs at "SMBus Host Controller not enabled!" is there a fix/workaround for this yet?
