Performance hit due to EVC mode?

Hi

We've got a cluster with some older hosts that have Xeon E5 2600 (v1) series CPUs. We've purchased some new hosts with Xeon Gold 6142 CPUs. We would get some management benefit from adding the new hosts to the existing cluster rather than creating a new cluster for them, however this would require us to use the new servers in EVC mode set to 'sandy bridge' generation.

My concern is that if we do this (i.e. use these new CPUs in EVC mode to be compatible with the older ones) that we will lose some performance due to masking out some of the CPU features, however I don't have any real world knowledge of what that would mean. Does anyone have any knowledge or experience of what the impact would be?

thanks for any help

What kind of applications and workload is running on the cluster you are going to put in this EVC mode ?
