PSOD while installing.

Hi,

I got myself a license to use vSphere from school. However, I'm trying to install it and I'm getting PSOD with a couple of error messages. I have never used/or tried vSphere before, so all help is welcome!

CPU: Ryzen 7 1700

Motherboard: Taichi x370

Could you post the PSOD image ?

Also what is the hardware model and  vsphere version you are using ?

you need to check if that hardware is compatible with version you are using .

I think the version is ESXi 6.0.0, and the screenshot of the PSOD was linked on my post, but I'll upload it just to be sure. I'm not sure what do you mean by hardware model, could you be more specific. --> Screenshot of the PSOD https://prnt.sc/lwmbn3

You are using ESXi 6.0 the availability of which was around 2 years before the availability of Ryzen 7 1700 CPU.

It is best to use ESXi 6.7. If you need to install ESXi 6.0 (for whatever reason), you could try disabling the number of active CPU threads.

There were known issues of supporting beyond 14 threads with ESXi 6.5. It is probably the same case here as the PSOD shows "pcpu 15 has bad apical 0xf". You can look at this community thread for reference

Officially, AMD Ryzen CPUs are not supported for ESXi as they are not in the VMware HCL for CPUs. For home lab/study purposes, it might be an acceptable risk of not having official support; but if it is for business/critical use, that would be a different story.

For some reason, the provided site has an only 6.0/U2 version available to download. I'm going to try some tweaks in the bios, and hopefully get it to work. I read that many others have similar problems with me, but maybe it has been fixed in 6.7 version. Thanks for the useful answer.
