Oracle vcpu configuration with 2 socket server

Hello,

I am having high CPU (usr) issues with one of our linux Oracle 11g servers on vsphere.

The ESXi host is a 2 socket server, it has 2x Intel 20 core 2 Ghz processors.

The Oracle VM is currently configured with 8 vcpu, 8 sockets, 1 core per socket. I am looking for the best practice in general when setting up vcpu on Oracle.

As I said, the VM was set with 8 sockets, 1 core per socket. I am not sure if this is better than setting 1 socket with 8 cores or 2 sockets with 4 cores each. I suppose NUMA should be figured in.

Hopefully this is clear.

Thanks in advance

The vCore/vSocket value does not effect numa. VMware decouple it.

If your VM have more than 8 vCPU you should read Virtual NUMA Controls .
