Open VM Tools version in Vsphere client.

Hello,

We are testing Open VM Tools on RHEL7 and see that the VMware Tools status of "Running (Current)" is no longer available in the Vsphere client.   Instead it a gray question mark with the words "Running (Guest Managed)" is now present.  Our VMware administrator is concerned that he cannot verify that the installed version of Open VM Tools is current with the Esxi release.  Is there a way in the Vsphere client to verify that the installed version of Open VM Tools is compatible with the Esxi release?

Kind Regards,

Tim

There is no need as open-vm-tools is an out-of-band tools compared with "tar tools" shipped with ESXi. There is no declared compatibility requirement, and it's at the discretion of the Linux sysadmins to update open-vm-tools for any desired feature sets.
