New server / hardware migration

Hey All,

Will be getting new hardware and replacing my existing ESXI hosts i am wondering about backing up / restoring the config basically we had a vendor do the original install and is going to be easier to do a host profile and restore (have been caught out with other configs they made previously).

I have Enterprise plus licensing so in this scenario would a host profile work create one then join the ESXI server's to the cluster and the host profile create the storage connections?

AFAIK, host profiles will help you configure the standard settings such as Syslog, Firewall, Services status, etc. There are certain settings which will require user intervention. Not sure if this is an exhaustive list - Host Customization. Alternatively, you can use the vicfg-cfgbackup utility to backup the ESXi configuration and import it on the new hosts - VMware Knowledge Base.
