Module 'CPUID' power on failed. The virtual machine cannot be powered on because the number of virtual CPUs is not a multiple of the number of cores per socket configured in the virtual machine.

I am using ESXI vsphere version 6. I am trying to automatically enable NUMA node in a guest ubuntu machine. For that I have provided vCPU : 12 and 6 cores per socket to the guest machine. However, the virtual machine does not boot as the sockets calculated/appearing on the UI are in decimal format. I am not sure why this is decimal value as i was under the impression that it is simply a multiple of number of cores per socket into number of sockets.

Error

  • Module 'CPUID' power on failed.
  • The virtual machine cannot be powered on because the number of virtual CPUs is not a multiple of the number of cores per socket configured in the virtual machine.

I haven't come across this issue anywhere else on the internet.
