Migration issues with Windows 8.1 on ESXI 5.5

We were having hardware issues with a couple of hard disks that used to host a VM we had on ESXI 5.5. This pair of HDDs were running in RAID1 and was configured as datastore2 on our ESXI 5.5.

The VM we had was on Windows 8.1 with a couple of snapshots. Before swapping the HDDs, we deleted all the previous snapshots and made sure only one instance is listed under snapshot manager. Please note that there were still two folders under datastore2; one was called [VM_OriginalName] and the other was called [VM_OriginalName]_1.

We took a copy of both folders via SCP and swapped the old hard drives with the new ones; created the new datastore (named it datastore5) and copied those two folders back into datastore5. We imported the vmx file under [VM_OriginalName]_1 folder and we chose the "copy" option (not "move").

When we start the VM, the event is completed 100%; however we only see black screen. Most people having this black screen issue see at least the Windows logo but we see absolutely nothing.

I tried disabling devices.hotplug and added a few attributes under vmx to rule out boot order issues but still having no luck.

Please note that we currently have 4 HDDs in this machine. The other pair is also RAID1 and hosts out datastore1.

We have been checking the vmware log but not seeing much about the boot process. (attached)

Any ideas what might be going wrong?

Thanks

In the <VM>.vmx file, does the drives point to the correct path to the copied vmdk files?
