hi, i am new in Vmware, would like to get some advise from you for this issue.
we are now using two HP dl380G8 hosts and HP MSA2040 as storage. FC connect host directly to MSA2040. we are runing ESXi 6.5 and Vcenter appliance on the system.
since hardware used for many years, we recently bought 2 HP DL360 G10 and HP MSA2050 to replace them. host and storage connect by FC cable directly.
but i dont know what's the best way to install and migrate VMs to new hardware, could you kindly give me some advise.
the plan is we might install Esxi 7.02 or 7.03 and new Vcenter appliance on new system in evaluation mode, and for the moment new host and old host does not have shared storage. how can we move license and VMs to new hardware.
the ESXi and Vcenter license we have is for essiential Plus Kit, support 6 cpu, max 2 cpu per host, max 3 servers.
in addition, for ESXi version, checked HP DL360 G10 support ESXi 7.03, but what's the recommended version to instsall?
so what could be the migration step to do? thanks for your help!
For the vCenter Server, you can simply perform an Upgrade and place the new one on the new hosts, which are already connected to the new MSA.
If the old MSA has an unused FC port available, you could temporarily (for migration purposes) connect one of the new hosts to the LUN owning controller of each MSA with a single cable to perform the migration.
vSphere Essentials Plus also allows migrations without shared storage over the network, so that you do not need to reconfigure the old MSA. This can even be done with powered on VMs over the vMotion network.

Hello.
I recommend you to use a backup tool for VMs.
Veeam works perfectly with VMware and is free for up to 10 jobs.
Attached link:
https://www.veeam.com/virtual-machine-backup-solution-free.html
The installation and configuration are simple and there are thousands of videos explaining how to perform most tasks.
It is a simple, fast and risk free method.
The veeam backup server can be installed on a VM with enough (temporary) disk space on the new hardware.
I will vote for @a_p_ solution.

Joerg
if your DL380 G8 have 2 HBA port you can disconnect one of them and connect FC to new Storage .
after hat you can migrate VMs to New Storage and disconnect DL380 From old MSA.
