Hi all
I'm using VM with RDMs (C Drive is Virtual disk)
I have to migrate this VM, so I try migrate using advanced option, but it affect RDMs too.
RDM disks are physical, I know they can not be migrated, and I don't need migrated to virtual disks.
How can I migrate only drive C to a different datastore?
My stupid idea is detach the RDM to VM for a moment.
I'd appreciate your advice!
Regards.
Hi.

I found the KB as above.
Perhaps in my case, I have to detach RDM disks and migrate C drive, re-attach RDM disks.. : )
Hi MICDROP,
There is a drop down for storage when you select 'Configure per disk'. Drop down and change datastore only for C: drive.
For example refer attached screenshot
Thank for reply.
Is there another way?? 😂
Is the drop-down option grayed out for the non-rdm disks ? If not, then you should still be able to migrate just those disks and the RDM disks will remain intact.
Are you able to storage vMotion the single disk?
Else, I would try a cold migration.

You go the right KB there. Yes, you can detach the physical RDMs and attach them post migration of C: drive
Detaching the disk might work.
Another option would be a cold migration.
Please keep in mind that for the RDM to work the RDM lun has to be presented to the destination host.
