Dear All
I do not think it is a simple question.
Free version of vSphere5.5 I downloaded it, but I can not use it without knowing the license key.
Please tell me where it is displayed.
Hmmm?
The key is provided by VMware during your download for the free vSphere Hypervisor from vmware.com
Iam suprised that you are able to download an old an unsupported version. Maybe you have download the old version from myvmware products... but there you dont get your key. Iam not sure if VMware provide a key anymore for old 5.x
Regards
Joerg
Hello,
Normaly you dont have or need license if you are in free version ESXi
Check
https://kb.vmware.com/s/article/1007955?lang=en_US
There is no 'free' license key for vSphere, which I would assume to include vCenter. There is a free trial period, which is active by default on after install until a key is supplied.
There are free keys for ESXi however, which redluna31 says is required for the host to continue operating beyond the free trial period, but does reduce the features available.
asajm's supplied link is somewhat helpful, but to determine what licenses are applied on a host it is far easier to view the licensing tab on the Web Client connected to the host. If you want to use SSH :
vim-cmd vimsvc/license --show
This will list the key under the field "serial:" if one exists.
Login to https://my.vmware.com/en/web/vmware/evalcenter?p=free-esxi5 from where I assume you've downloaded the free Hypervisor. You should then find your license key in the "License & Download" tab.
