Failed to log into NFC server ... when trying to upload ISOs to datastore

Hey guys Smiley Happy

Just built a new ESXi host using 6.5.

Everything setup perfectly and running fine.

Was about to upload my operating system ISOs to commence deploying VMs and every time I try to upload the ISOs located on my NAS drive I get the above error!!

I've searched through all the blogs I can find but nothing is working.

Can anyone PLEASE help!!! It's driving me nuts Smiley Sad

Thanks in advance.

Do you have a firewall between your client machine and the ESXi host's management vmkernel port? What browser are/were you using and did you try multiple?

Hi,

I was running vsphere client from my Windows 10 desktop connected to ESXi 6.5.

I was using Mozilla Firefox.

The files were located on my QNAP NAS drive.

I've tried multiple browsers connecting and the client itself, do you think the issue is with windows 10 firewall settings?

Thanks

Hi, thanks,

Yes, I've telnet'd onto the virtual server on port 902, that worked Smiley Happy

I read a VMware article about this and that talked heavily about the /etc/VMware/config file

Could it be I still don't have the config file correct, mine looked different to what they suggested?

Thanks

Hey guys,

So I reinstalled VMware 6.0 and it worked straight away.

Whatever the issue is, it's with 6.5.

Any other thoughts?

What's changed in 6.5?

Thanks

Steve

I know this error when there are problems with the DNS resolution. Can you resolve all used FQDNs from your client, ESXi server and NAS? And do the reverse lookups also work?

Thanks for the suggestion

i know i can fully resolve ip addresses and names, forward and reverse from all my PC clients.

i have a windows 2012 domain controller with active directory properly configured.

To be honest, I don’t know if I’ve tried command line resolving from the Linux distro on NAS or by ssh’ing onto esxi host, I’ll try that in the next hour.

thanks again for the advice, it just seems so weird that I’ve never had a problem with any other esxi version, just 6.5, made me wonder had they locked something down or introduced new security feature or something.

Hi,

Thanks so much for your suggestions Smiley Happy

So I tried from esxi host and DNS lookups were perfect and from windows 10 client.

When I tried from NAS drive Linux distro., couldn't resolve at all.

So, modified /etc/resolv.conf and hosts and got it working perfectly.

Rebooted the NAS a few times to make sure all settings were in place although not needed in unix lol

Still get NFC error Smiley Sad

Any other thoughts?

Despite the DNS on Linux distro, now sorted, it has to be something different in 6.5 versus 6.0 as 6.0 still works straight off the bat! Smiley Sad

Thanks Steve
