Failed to expand VMFS Datastore - cannot change host configuration

Running a nested esx environment:

Initial (nested) ESX disk was 100G, I increased to 150G on the outer vCenter and looks good.

In the nested vCenter:

still shows 100G

Connect to the ESX directly, from webUI -> increase datastore capacity->expand an existing VMFS datastore extent

(it shows 150G for capacity)

Selected the vmfs partition and the after picture looks perfect.

and when I run it, I get the error:  Failed to expand VMFS Datastore - cannot change host configuration

Any ideas?

Expanding the VMFS dataastore on the installation disk/LUN needs to be done from the command line.

Not sure what you are asking.  the host client is embedded, so everything is 6.5;  ESX,vCenter

When you login to the host client (https://<FQDN>/ui) if you go to Help -> About in the upper-right, what version does it report?

Dead link. Is this also true if you want to "Increase Storage Capacity" by attaching another LUN?
