Exporting a large OVF fails

vCenter/vSphere appliance 6.7U2

Looking for tips on how to export OVFs in the 500-600GB range.

If I understand correctly, and OVF export will exclude any white space.  I'm having a terrible time trying to export some VMs.

I've wondered if using the HTML5 client is problematic because the browser likely creates a .tmp file?

I've tried setting up a laptop with an external USB drive on the same network switch, but the transfer speed was terrible.

My guess is that my browser talks to vSphere, but the download happens directly from my laptop/browser to the appropriate ESX.

I've wondered if PowerCLI might be more robust?

Try using ovftool, its a lot more stable then doing it from the interface.

Open Virtualization Format Tool (ovftool) - VMware {code}
