Export Esxi 6.5 and import WS 12/14 gives "unknown error"

I exported in the vCenter client 6.5 a virtual machine (400 Gb OS: W10) to ovf file on a Windows disk

I tried to import this ovf file in workstation 12 and workstation 14. Both give an "unknown error.

I tried it again with another virtual machine (less than 200 Gb and OS XP) this one has no problems.

How can I import the VM in the WS12/14?

Is the log file automatically created?

If yes, where is it located on a W10 system?

If no, how to create a log file

it should be under your user folder, appdata\local\temp

Using OVF is just one way to acchieve this - IMHO one of the more unreliable ones.
Did you try to download the full directory of the VM directly ?
This should be usable with Workstation - there maybe small issues but we can fix those easily.

I tried to download the files one by one from the vCenter client. This does not work at all.

log files did not give any hint. no warnings/errors that i can see from vmware and ovftool log. Did you try convert using ovftool and then importing into workstation ?
