  • 1.  Essentials Licensing for 128 core server

I have a client who wants to run a single AMD EPYC 7742 dual socket server. Can we use an Essentials Kit for that? I know it's limited to 3 servers with 2 sockets each. But, can we run a just single server using up 4 licenses to meet to 128 core count? Thanks in advance!

I can't tell you for sure, but from the answer that I've received from a distributor, the licensing is the same for all editions, i.e. what you are asking for should work.

That's also what I understand from the "What's included" tab at https://store-us.vmware.com/vmware-vsphere-essentials-kit-5653279100.html

Starting with vSphere 7.0, one CPU license covers one CPU with up to 32 cores. You need additional CPU licenses if а CPU has more than 32 cores.

    Hello,

I was curious if you managed to test assigning an Essentials license (or more exactly a bundle in this case) to a host with a total of 128 cores and if you can confirm it actually works.
I have a similar situation as yours.

    Thank you,
