Editing VMDK File Extent using Vi

Guys,

Question, I'm novice VMware Engineer here Smiley Wink

I'm trying to edit the VMDK File using VI Editor.

sample CLI

vi /volumes/datastore/vmfolder/vmname.vmdk

Upon entering the correct path and file name, I keep getting the word

'vi /volumes/datastore/vmfolder/vmname.vmdk' is not a regular file

Any idea guys how I can override, is it something about the permission? but am using root account, I wanted to edit the VMDK Extent.

Thanks in advance,

JOf

Type the exact string you're issuing as an argument to the vi command.

The path syntax would something like this vi /vmfs/volumes/datastore/**********.vmdk

Volumes are under 'VMFS' directory which you aren't specifying.
