EVC - vMotion

Hello all,

I have added a new Server on one of my ESXi clusters.

The processor type on the two old ESXi hosts is Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU X5560 @ 2.80GHz, but the new one is a Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5630 @ 2.53GHz.

I have managed to live migrate some running VMs using vMotion, but for a few VMs I am getting the error below:

The virtual machine requires hardware features that are unsupported or disabled on the target host: """* Carryless multiply (PCLMULQDQ) (see KB 1034926) """"""""* AES instructions (AES-NI) (see KB 1034926) """ If possible, use a cluster with Enhanced vMotion Compatibility (EVC) enabled; see KB article 1003212. CPUID details: incompatibility at level 0x1 register 'ecx'. Host bits: 0000:0010:1001:1000:0010:0010:0000:0011 Required: x000:x00x:10x1:1xx0:xx10:xx1x:xx0x:xx01

I assume EVC needs to be enabled.

My questions are:

- Why vMotion works for a few VMs even the processors do not match.

- Can I enable EVC on a live network (cluster) or this is normally done out of hours? In other words if I enable EVC, will it reboot my live VMs?
