EVC and vmotion

Hi everyone, I have a cluster with powered on vm. I need to migrate all vm in a new cluster with newer cpu (both cluster are Intel and cpu compatible in evc hcl). The question is: can I migrate vm with vmotion (without powering off) from the old to the new cluster?

Thank you very much

Hi,

Moving VMs from Non-EVC to EVC is a bit challenging. As VMs work closely with the CPU family it isn't easy to do Online Migration of the VMs from Non-EVC to EVC. You need to take a downtime and migrate the VMs.

OR

Try using this free Veeam Backup Migration tool on test VMs first and then on Production if it works in your scenario.

vMotion from older CPUs to a newer ones (same vendor) usually works.

However, there are a few exceptions, see e.g. https://kb.vmware.com/s/article/76155?lang=en_US
