Discovering that all of my ESXi7 host with server 2019 guests are not properly working for in guest unmap.
VMDKs much larger than they should be.
Going the manual route - The 2019 defrag / Optimize shows "optimization not available"
If I run Optimize-Volume -DriveLetter E -ReTrim -Verbose on guest it does not decrease VMDK.
fsutil behavior query DisableDeleteNotify
NTFS DisableDeleteNotify = 0 (Disabled)
ReFS DisableDeleteNotify = 0 (Disabled)
On same ESXi7 host with Server 2016 optimization is available and volume shows percentage.
If I run via GUI or Optimize-Volume -DriveLetter F -ReTrim -Verbose it works and VMDK reduces slightly.
This proves to me that ESXi7 hosts / VMFS6 database is fine and the issue ls with 2019.
Has anyone come across this and know what's up with 2019?
