ESXi6.0 on a DELL Optiplex 7050

Hi all,

I installed ESXi 6.0 on an brand new Dell Optiplex 7050, Installation was successfull except the Network Card does not connect.

The NIC is recognized by ESXi, but I cannot get an IP using DHCP nor I can not ping when I set a static IP.

I tried different things:

- used different ISOs (one from DELL, one from HPE), both ESXi 6.0 U3, and also the original ISO from VMware (ESXi 6.0 U2, in this one the NIC was not recognized)

- disabled the onboard Networkkard (Intel I219LM) and installed different NICs on PCI

- Installed the newest ESXi6.5

In all these different trials the result is the same: The NIC is recognized, but does not communicate.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance

Andreas

are you able to ping getaway from ESXI host and have you done network testing on esxi host?

Test the Management Network of an ESXi Host

After you configure the ESXi host network settings, you can test the management network of the host to verify that it is working correctly.

Prerequisites

Configure the ESXi host IP address, VLAN ID, and DNS servers.

Procedure

1In the System Customization menu, select Test Management Network and press Enter.

The Test Management Network dialog box appears. The dialog box contains the gateway IP address of the subnet and the DNS servers that you specified.

2To test if the ESXi host management network, press Enter.

ESXi performs the following tests:

■pings the subnet gateway specified

■pings the primary DNS server specified

■pings the alternate DNS server specified

■resolves the hostname of the ESXi host

3 If any of the tests fail, verify that you specified the correct settings in the respective configuration menu and rerun the tests.

are you able to ping getaway from ESXI host

--> No, even if I manually set the IP configuration

and have you done network testing on esxi host

--> Yes, Test Management Network failes too, independant of the settings.

If I select DHCP, then no adress will be assigned. But I am sure our DHCP Server is fine, since my Laptop and all other PCs connected at the same desktop switch get correct IP configuration from DHCP.

Finally it works, dont ask me why...

I used a Live-Linux, there was also no DHCP working

Then I installed Win10, same...

After calling IT they rebooted the port on main Switch, and now it is fine...

The Stange Thing is, that my Laptop on the same port worked fine...

Nevertheless, thanks for helping here...

Nice to hear that . If you network port is hung ( Not working than you will not able  to connect over the network )

I asked you to checked network connectivity because I was thinking the same as might be some problem in network port .

Hi,

This is not properly a reply but a question related to the post.

Did you use a custom ISO for the Optiplex 7050?

I can't complete the installation process due to a "network adapter" error.

Thanks in advance.
