ESXi cannot be added to vCenter

Hello,

I'm having an issue since 1 month to add host with my "new" vCenter 5.5

I really need your help

Before showing errors and logs, let me explain the situation :

  • December 2019, our vCenter 5.5 crashed
  • I reinstalled it all "new" (it kept the same IP and same hostname)
  • I reconfigured clusters
  • Then I added 15 ESXi without any errors
  • But... 5 ESXi cannot be added. I checked errors logs, even from TRIVIA level, but I'm still stucked
  • These 5 ESXi were previously in the old vCenter 5.5 ; so I know it worked before the crash

What I already tried and it didnt work :

  • Add the ESX with IP
  • Add with hostname
  • Add in another cluster
  • Add in the datacenter
  • From ESX to my vCenter (via SSH), I tried :
    • NSLOOKUP
    • Ping
    • Traceroute
    • It's all working from the 5 ESX to the vCenter (and vice versa)

Others informations :

  • vCenter Licence is OK
  • ESXi Licences are OK
  • DNS, hostname, domain, everything in the network is configured

Now the logs... as said, I enabled TRIVIA logs on the vCenter AND on the ESXi.

I checked logs on :

  • ESXi hosts (hostd.log and vpxa.log)
  • vCenter (vpxd.log)

I tried to compare these logs from ESXi that can be added, and ESXi than cannot be added.

So here the errors that I've found, but I still cannot understand why it doesnt work... if you can please, check and help ↓↓

Why only these logs... because this error (DLF Download failed) is happening on all 5 ESXi

When I try to add an ESXi to the vCenter and it's working, I don't have these DLFs errors.

So I'm sure my problem is with DLF.

I've already checked this link : VMware Knowledge Base

The "SSL" was already checked on the ESXi. But to be sure, I unchecked it, restart services, rechecked it, restart services, tried to add host -> Still not working.

I'm lost.. with 50Mbs logs files per ESXi.

Thank you for your help.

Regards,

Seems you may be trying to add the hosts directly into a cluster, so perhaps you don't have the required HA/DRS licenses available for these additional hosts.

Hello scott,

Thanks for your answer !

I've tried to add hosts :

  • In an empty cluster with HA/DRS enabled
  • In an empty cluster with HA/DRS disabled
  • In a Production Cluster (HA enable and disable)
  • Directly in the datacenter

None of them work... Always the same error ..

(Licenses configured on these Hosts allow HA and DRS by the way)

The hardest part is to get more logs... in trivia mode.

I'm wondering if there are networks logs (with trivia mode) somewhere (on vcenter or on hosts) ?
