ESXi Nested and VMkernel

Hi to all...

I've a physical server with ESXi 6.7U3.

My physical ESXi 6.7U3 is connected to physical network with VSS and two uplinks.

On this server I added two VDS 6.6 without uplinks:

  • VDS-MGMT
    • DPG-MGMT
  • VDS-NAS
    • DPG-NAS

and enabled MAC Learning (I've read this article link)

I create two nested ESXi 7U2 and add 4 vmnic (two connected to DPG-MGMT and two to DPG-NAS)

(I created the two nested hosts, either with via Install CD, or by downloading the ova from this library [link] .... same behavior )

I hope I have made the infrastructure well understood so far 😁

Each nested ESXi 7, is configured in like this:

  • two VSS:
    • vSwtich0 (default) - 2 UPLink (active-active)
      • Management Network
        • vmk0
    • VSS-NAS - 2 UPLink (active-standby)
      • PG-NAS
        • vmk1

I've an issues:

1. If I add management network redundancy and FollowHardwareMac (link) is 1 (enabled) or IPv6 is Disabled , the host is unreachable (also the pinging between host doesn't works)

      a. If disable FollowHardwareMac all works fine...but I don't understand exactly why I should enable it.

If enable Promiscuos mode, I've same result.

If I add two windows (or other OS) client vm, with same configurations (two nic with two different ip) all works fine.

Thanks a lot for any suggestions
