ESXi 6.5 and very strange problem

Hello,

On August 28 I migrated with vmconvert 6 virtual machines from an ESXi 6.0 host to another host with ESXi 6.5, everything was perfect.

Yesterday, I had to do a maintenance, so, I shutdown all virtual machines and I put in maintenance the ESXi host, I did the maintenance, I turned on the host, I start the virtual machines, all fine, however, one virtual machine, which is a owncloud server, returned to the version of August 28, losing 2 months of data.

Note that once in September and another in October due to electrical problems the host was shut down, however, when turning it on, there was no problem whatsoever, no data was lost.

I have reviewed the logs and apparently the ESXi made the migration again, it marks errors of "duplication" and that there are devices with the same name, however, this migration as it overwrote the data that they had.

Note that there was NO pending migration, because this was done on August 28 and it was successful.

Does anyone know what may have happened and if there is any way to recover the data?

Hello,

thanks for you answer, but this virtual machine has not snapshot because the migration overwrite all directory on datastore. why again made the migration?

My question is,   why again made the migration?   is a bug of VMWARE ESXi?

best regards

Restore the virtual machine from backup.
