I have been all over google searching on tuning for 10gb on esxi.
my issues isn't outside the box but I will list all hw.
This is a "Lab" that I am playing on, so it is not "Server" grade...
Software:
6.7.0 Update 1 (Build 10302608)
Hardware:
Lenovo Thinkstation P700
6 CPUs x Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5-2620 v3 @ 2.40GHz
16gb DDR4
512gb ssd
so I'm going to get bashed for this... but it works!!!!
Network Hardware:
HP Procurve 6400CL 6 port CX4 connector switch
HPE InfiniBand 4X DDR Conn-X PCI-E G2 Dual Port HCA (483514-B21) flashed to HP Fw 2.8
I have my win10 box and server 2019 box, both physical boxes, working and getting 10gb speeds and transferring files @1.1GB/s
so ESXI sees the cards as 10gb, in my two win10 vm's, see as 10gb... static IP's created but I'm getting
4gb iperf3 speeds.
copying files between vm's I'm also seeing it very slow.
so is there a tweaking guide on how to get the 10gb running faster or is this just something you have to live with?
if I run
iperf3 -P 20 -c 10.60.1.2
I get
[SUM] 0.00-10.00 sec 11.2 GBytes 9.58 Gbits/sec sender
[SUM] 0.00-10.00 sec 11.1 GBytes 9.57 Gbits/sec receiver
so that looks good. but when I copy a 7gb ISO file between two guest vms... starts out at 600GB/s but drops to 45MB/s and the 7gb file takes 2-2.5 minutes to copy..
just trying to get my local VM's communicating correctly before trying to throw in freenas and server 2019 physical boxes...
but if I run iperf with no switches
[ ID] Interval Transfer Bandwidth
[ 4] 0.00-10.00 sec 5.46 GBytes 4.69 Gbits/sec sender
[ 4] 0.00-10.00 sec 5.46 GBytes 4.69 Gbits/sec receiver
and I only have an ssd drive
Local Diskmark of C:
mapped drive to other guest vm seems no faster...
so I'm trying to setup the network to make sure it works at 10gb speeds as I am going to test veritas system recovery backups... so want to make sure 10gb is functioning first...
