ESXI 6.7 doesn't recognize NVMe drive in Lenovo X3650 M4

Hello,

We got a Lenovo X3650 M4 loaded with newest Lenovo custom build ESXI 6.7

The problem is that I've installed an Samsung mznln256hmhq-000l7 NVMe drive in an Startech  x4 PCI Express to M.2 PCIe SSD Adapter.

But Vmware wont recognize the drive, anybody that can explain why?

I know the drive aren't officially compatible with Vmware, but

I've seen loads of videos with Lenovo X3650 M4 and even M3 servers using NVMe and normal SSD 2.5" disk that aren't on that list, in vmware.

Hello Diego,

I have installed it with:

Name:  VMware-ESXi-6.7.0-8169922-LNV-20180404.iso

Release Date: 2018-04-17

Build Number: 8169922

That is the custom ISO for Lenovo.

Hello Kumar,

Sure, I'll try that, but I'm installing a Samsung drive, your link is for Intel drive?

Thank you. To verify any driver that is currently installed, can you show the output of the below command?

esxcli software vib list | grep -i nvme

Thanks

sorry about that. If I  go to VMware HCL - VMware Compatibility Guide - I/O Device Search   as you mentioend its not listed. It means the EcoSystem partner Samsung has not certified or atleast not sent  to VMware after testing and certifying it.

If you have already reached out to Lenovo, you can log a GitHub case here which can help - https://github.com/vmware/nvme
