  • 1.  Distorted sound when pass-through onboard soundcard to VM?

I'm using Intel's DQ77KB motherboard with an ALC892 sound controller. I installed OpenWrt on vSphere Hypervisor and decided to run gmediarender on it to act as a wireless audio receiver. After the passthrough configuration, the VM can recognize the soundcard and with alsamixer it's able to set its parameters. However when I tried to play something with mpg123, it outputs a lot of under-run error messages and the speaker just gave me random distorted noises. I also tried to install Windows XP and Windows 10 but still the same issue. However it's totally fine when I passthrough the USB controller and connect a USB soundcard to it. Does that means it's impossible to use the onboard one? If not, how can I fix this? Thanks!

In my experience using an external USB-soundcard is the only way to get a decent sound experience from a VM.
So I highly recommend to use that route.

Thanks, that might be the only way to get a sound output.
