Deploy vCenter with no FQDN

Hi,

I would like to understand why does VMware allow to deploy a vCenter using only the IP address and no FQDN.

I can understand that there are environments that will not have a domain controller for the vCenter and that is the reason why. But, when you try to renew the SSL certificate you must have a FQDN, otherwise it will not work. Therefore, why does VMware allow this type of deployment if it is not going to be possible to renew the certificate in the future and vCenter will stop working?

Hi Jodie,

Thanks for your answer. I managed to deployed it without DNS and no FQDN a couple of years ago, and now I cannot renew my SSL Certificate. So, it is possible for sure, but it seems like VMware have not thought about how to renew certificates for this type of setups.
