Datastore hitting 95% capacity at certain time each day

Hi All

Over the last week or so we've noticed that our incremental daily backups are failing due to the datastore not having enough disk space. Upon further investigation it looks like at circa 17:00 each day the datastore starts to increase quite drastically (200gb or so) which ultimately causes it to fail

Any ideas on what to check? / where etc?

Cheers

Ryan

do you have a VM backup job that kicks in at that time...?

do you have thin provisioned VMDK for VMs on that datastore..?

Thanks for the response

No VM backup jobs around that time and all thin provisioned VMDKs

Thanks

Do you have any VM which is exchange server or backup server. If yes then it could be due to transaction logs

Cheers!

Machines with lot of IO writes with thin provisioned disks use up the over-provisioned storage on the datastore.

you will have to look for such servers on the datastore and allocated thick provisioned disks to them.

from the datastore summary, you should be able to see the overprovisioning .. which is the cause here.
