Datastore clone cannot be mounted to newer version

Hi,

I have a case where older vmfs version cannot be mounted (maintain data) in the newer ESX version. My env : ESXi 5.5.0 build-2068190, my new env : ESXi 6.7.0 U1.

Both environment connected to a netapp storage (fas 3000).

We create a flexclone from a datastore which has been used in ESX 5.5. Then the flexclone mapped to the ESX 6.7

In the web client I can see the ESXi 6.7 reads the VMFS but failed to read the metadata, so the datastore cannot be mounted without format its content.

But if the flexclone mapped to the ESX 5.5, when adding the datastore, ESX 5.5 can read the metadata by showing options like datastore resignature, maintain or format.

Need advice/inputs.

Thanks.

How likely is that the old Datastore uses VMFS 3.x and you have forget to upgraded it to 5.54 or so when upgrading your Hosts?   On the other hand it is supportet to run a existing VMFS 3.x under ESXi 6.7 but you cant create "new" ones. Iam not sure if resignature is counted as "creating".

Did you try to mount it from the commandline with the the old "esxcfg-volume" or the newer "esxcli <iforgettherest>" to receive a more verbose feedback from the system?

Regards,

Joerg

we uses vmfs 5 since beginning.

When I try using esxcli storage core ... Lun already recognize ( match with LUN id from the fas3000).

when checking the volume, the esx 6.7 did not recognize any volume from the flexclone.

Should we used vcenter to do this? Right now we only having single standalone esx 6.7 for testing purpose.

It took a while for "esxcli storage vmfs snapshot list" output command

Thanks.
