  • 1.  Create RAID 1 to deploy vCenter server

I have 2 HP DL360 G10 servers installed vSphere ESXi that will be vSphere HA.

Then there is a HP DL20 G10 Server will be the vCenter server. I want to create a RAID 1 with two 1TB HDDs in the server and install ESXi on it before deploy vcenter.

However I found that the server's smart array controller uses software RAID. VMware doesn't support software RAID.

Is there any solution that allow me to create RAID 1 HDD compatible with ESXi?

Or any other way to make two copies in two HDD at the same time?

You need a physical RAID controller card.

    Thank you.

Then How many ESXi license I need to buy?

I have 2 ESXi licenses and 1 vCenter license. But I dont know the ESXi was installed on DL20 G10 need to activate or not.

    Is it enough?

Because of your question i assume that you havent have a shared storage so vMotion, HA is out of the game. Than the following vSphere license should be the right one.

    vSphere Essentials Kit

    - One Instance of vCenter (max. 3 Hosts)

    - 3x 2 CPU ESXi Hosts

    Costs:

    470,- Licenses

    70,- Subscription per Year
