  • 1.  Connecting NAS to ESXi

I have a client with a single 6.5 host with 2 VM's. I would like to offload backups to their external NAS device which is running in RAID 1. How do I get the ESXi host to see the NAS if I connect the NAS directly to the host through USB?

    Thank you,

If it's a NAS you should be connecting to it over the network via an NFS mount, not directly connected via USB.

What if the NAS does not have a network port? Would USB work?

If it doesn't have a network port it's not a NAS :smileyhappy: If that's the case, "no" would be the best answer here because it's just USB-attached storage, and ESXi cannot do anything with that.

You must configure your NAS (Network-Attached Storage) device in a networking infrastructure not as a direct-attached device and also configured it with related protocols such as NFS , CIFS, SMB, FTP, SFTP .... based on your device vendor support.
