Configuring an ESX or ESXi host to display FQDN instead of IP address in vCenter without losing performance data

Hi

I am trying to do the following KB to change a host name from IP address to FQDN in vCenter.
https://kb.vmware.com/s/article/1014030

But i am failing on the last step:

6. Enter the FQDN for the ESXi host and login credentials for the root user to add the host back into Inventory.

I am not allowed to change the value of "Host name or IP address:". That box is pre entered with the IP address and i cannot change/edit this.

Does anyone have an idea what i am doing wrong. I use ESXi 6.5.

I attach a .jpg of the value that i cannot change/edit.

Kind regards

Hello,

Did you successfully delete the vpxuser account from this host ?

If possible, kindly try to restart the management agents for this host from DCUI or SSH as following: VMware Knowledge Base

Else, keep this host as disconnected and try to add a new host with the FQDN for the same host. If successfuly added you will be ready to delete the host (as IP) from inventory.

Please consider marking this answer "CORRECT" or "Helpful" if you think your question have been answered correctly.

Hi

Thanks for quick answer.
Yes i managed to delete vpxuser from the hosts via SSH.

I tried to connect the hosts direct with FQDN but then i got a message that the datastore already exists.
I will try to restart the management agent next time.

Kind regard
