Can you upgrade esxi from v7.0 U3c to U3d if vCenter is still on U3c

Hi. I know that vCenter is always supposed to be upgraded before the hypervisors, but I always thought that was mainly for support pack releases. We are not using VSAN, so we dont have those compatibility issues. I just wanted to upgrade some clusters to from U3c to U3d before I am able to do my vCenter. Thank you.

Inside vCenter vSphere Lifecycle Manager, you will be blocked to do this.

But manually yes you can, but if this is a production environment, I should not recommend this, since there is some changes that affect that.
