Can't ping VM from laptop with ESXI on Workstation

Hello,

I installed ESXI 6.5 to VMware Workstation and install vCenter to this ESXI.

My problem is that I can't ping vCenter from my laptop.

Network adapter on Workstation for ESXi was configured as NAT/Host-Only/Custom, but result is the same.

I have ping between Laptop and ESXI, between ESXI and vCenter, but I can't ping between Laptop and vCenter.

Please help me guys!

Like I thought before, this is the solution for my problem

VMware Knowledge Base

What I needed is to change permissions for vmnet8, vmnet1 etc in order to enable Promiscuous Mode.

Now I have ping from my Linux laptop to nested VM!

I appreciate your help! Thank you!

Hello,

Did you configured the standard switch and port groups on your ESXi ?

If Yes, did you connect the uplinks of this standard switch to per example a custom adapter (vmnet) ?

are your laptop's IP, ESXi and this vcenter in the same subnet ?

Please consider marking this answer "CORRECT" or "Helpful" if you think your question have been answered correctly.

Cheers,

can you able to ping from your laptop to esxi host?

if you could not able to ping b/w laptop to exsi or vice versa then it could be IP address issue either with your laptop or exsi host.

Yes! vCenter connected to VM Network, actually it was connected.

I've deleted vCenter and install Windows 10 VM, but still can't ping

Dear,

kindly try to disable all your network adapters on your workstation machine, and then test please.

because as per the remote session, it seems it is a routing conflict, i guess the traffic follow your default adapter with your default gateway.

please advise, and noting that i suddenly lost the remote session during my intervention.

for more help don't hesitate to contact me,

Hello,

As I See, it is not a firewall issue, it seems related to many routes from VM to workstation.

How can traffic would follow default gateway (ping in this case) if it's in the same subnet ? Please tell me)

It's obvious that problem not with Layer 3, it's a Layer 2 issue.
