Can't change settings on a guest VM

Whenever I try to change any settings on a guest VM I am getting an error that says "Failed  - A specified parameter was not correct: unitNumber". I have tried looking through the hostd.log but I'm not real sure what I'm looking for. I could really use some help for this! Specifically I'm trying to add a second network adapter to my vcsa VM, and I can't seem to do that. The error message looks like this:

Reconfig VM

Key

haTask-181-vim.VirtualMachine.reconfigure-469899

Description

Reconfigure this virtual machine

Virtual machine:

vcsa.<MyCompany>.local (1)

State

Failed  - A specified parameter was not correct: unitNumber

Errors

I have removed my company's name just to be safe. I have copied just the logs that occurred when I was attempting this change, they can be found here:

hostd.log 5-1-18 - Pastebin.com https://pastebin.com/acXT3j00

Thanks!

No, that's not true. It doesn't need to be shutdown to add a NIC or many other types of operations.

Where are you attempting to make this change? Can you show the configuration of that VM?

Is this what you want to see?

This is without the second adapter that I'm trying to add, but any changes at all that I try to make (or even just opening it then saving) result in the same error.

This looks like the ESXi host client. Why aren't you making these changes from vCenter the application?

That's correct that it's the ESXi host. The changes are being made to the VCSA server, so I thought it had to be shut down while making the changes? Is that not true?

And, by the way, this should have worked even with the vCSA VM shut down, but because it didn't probably indicates you need to update your ESXi embedded host client with the one available from the Fling site.
