Can not boot from internal HDD, but OK from USB

In our corporate we run more than 3000 VM on VMWare, but today I am dealing with a non production problem.

I have a HP PC (it is a technical workstation) on wich I tried to install ESXi 6.7

I created the bootable USB with rufus and the stock VMWare ISO

I am able to install ESXi onto the local HDD of the worstation with no errors at all, but at the reboot after the install is completed I face this problem:

- just after the BIOS POST, I can see a message on the screen regarding "SYSLINUX", but this is so fast I can not read the full message... just SYSLINUX

- after that the workstation tries to boot from the network (PXE) and from any other device

- IF I force to boot from the internal HDD, I see a messages saying that there is no OS installed

- If I boot with a Linux live CD, gparted and other tools are saying me that the HDD is ok, active and bootable

OK. so to avoid HW problems, I repeated the ESXi install process and this time I installed ESXi onto a USB stick

In this way the workstation boots and ESXi is OK

If I try to install ESXi onto an external USB HDD is also OK

Can not understand why ESXi installs on the internal HDD, but refuse to boot from it.

I updated the BIOS and reset it's settings to factory, with no success

Of course, the workstation IS NOT in the VMware HCL

Consider the problem solved.

My fault.

I did not enebled the UEFI support: once I did, it booted correctly
