Can a ESXi7 essentials licence be downgraded to ESXi 6 or 5.5 ?
If yes - how does the procedure work ?

Not 100% sure about v5.x, but you will see the available versions when you select the option to downgrade license keys from within the MyVMware portal on which the license is registered.
