Altering the default "New Virtual Machine" settings

Is there a way to alter the default settings when creating a new virtual machine in the VMware host web console? I keep getting an error on "Device 5" because the host server  simply doesn't have a CD-ROM and the default settings add a CD-ROM to the VM and if I don't remember to remove it, I loose all my configuration and gotta go back and redo it.

Hi @tin_man

According to what I understand your question

If you created the virtual machine you can choose a custom specification and add a CD-ROM device

Please explain, if possible.

3 options come to my mind:

1. Click the X next to CD Drive each time you create a VM: (which I think is what you're referring to in your post)

2. Create templates that have no CD Drive, deploy new VMs from those templates

3. Leverage PowerCLI to create your VMs: Online Documentation - Cmdlet Reference - VMware {code}
