After restarting an ESXi host most VMs are showing as "invalid" and cannot be managed or even reregistered.
The RAID hardware shows the drives performing optimally. There don't appear to be any unusual events in the logs but one datastore can be browsed but the files cannot be downloaded or copied
The host has 2 RAID volumes assigned to corresponding datastores. The first volume contains the operating system and a single VM, which is working fine. The VMs on the second datastore are showing as invalid. The files are visible via the browse function but cannot be copied or reregistered.
Example error when copying a VM directory:
Description Copy the source file or folder to destination datacenter
State Failed - Error caused by file /vmfs/volumes/5b9678b9-cf588ba0-0525-0cc47a2bb29c/VM/VTDB
Hypervisor: ESXi version 6.7.0 (Build 8169922)
Server: Supermicro SYS-7048R-TR, 64GB RAM, 8x4TB drives (RAID1 + RAID5)
Any help in troubleshooting this issue would be appreciated
It seems that your VMs are on a Local Datastore from the Supermicro host.
Did you check the vmkernel.log in order to see any problem with the Datastore?
Are all the datastores mounted?
Please check again.
