Add a host in the newest vcenter 7 don't work - false login name or password!

after installing the newest version of vcenter 7, i am not able to add my host with the newest version of Vsphere 7 essentials. I can keyin all information, ip, root, password, confirm the certificates, then after pressing the button finish i become a error message that the user or password will be false. But this information are correct! I use a "_" in my password! Can this be the problem? What must i do

Hey @albatros99,

If you connect over SSH or using an IPMI console does it work with the credentials? Also please try using the Host Client.

If some of them work please try to look at the vpxa.log for some issues an also at the vpxd.log from vCenter Server.

The '_' in the password should not be an issue as mentioned in the documentation:

By default, you have to include a mix of characters from four character classes: lowercase letters, uppercase letters, numbers, and special characters such as underscore or dash when you create a password.

Yes, i can connect with the login name root and the defined password over web browser.

I have change my password with a other character as "_", but the same issue.

in german the message is: "Die Anmeldung kann aufgrund eines falschen Benutzernamens oder Kennwort nicht abgeschlossen werden"

Translate: "The login can't be finished, the cause is a false username oder password"

The license is correct, with the vcenter version before, there was not a problem!

To rule out issues with the keyboard layout, type in the password in the user name filed to see if it shows up correctly, e.g. special characters, "Y" <-> "Z", ...

sorry i had marked as correct answer, but this is false.

The error message in english is: Cannot complete login due to a incorrect user name or password

the keyboard layout is correct, i can login with putty (ssh) and over the internet browser with this user name and password

License are assign, vmware will not give support for licensing problem.

but this is not a license problem, with the vcenter version i don't have the problem, only with the latest version 7.0U1A

who can help????

May I know which version do you have for ESXi?

VMware vSphere Hypervisor (ESXi) 7.0U1 (one server)

VMware vCenter Server 7.0U1a

VMware vSphere Hypervisor (ESXi) 6.7.0U1 (one server)

i could add the 6.7 server to vcenter, but not the 7.0U1-Server.

in the vmware vCenter server 7.0 i had no problem. I don't want to install the new version as update/upgrade, have delete the vcenter server and create a new vcenter server.

So this could lead to two paths one is a bug with the actual version that you are using of vCenter or ESXi affecting the interoperability between them. For this, could you please try to install a most update version of ESXi or a lower one?

The second options is that maybe the network where you deployed vCenter Server has some difference between the previous ones. Could you try to get the last logs of the vpxa.log and vpxd.log when you try to add the ESXi?

where can i found vpxd.log?

it is not in the list of log files?

the problem is that the vsphere 7 license is unassigned, but by the host this license was accepted!

Thank you for your help!

Hi @albatros99 ,

vpxa logs are located on ESXi host at /var/run/log/vpxa.log

vpxd logs are located in vCenter server at /var/log/vmware/vpxd/vpxd.log

Hi

I believe your problem is related to the management agent of your new ESXi, we had this problem once, and by restarting the management agent of ESXi our problem simply was solved. so please try this solution if you didn't and share the result.

Hope this could be helpful

cheers

Does your ESXi have a license applied? Which edition are you using for ESXi and which one for vCenter?

Hi @albatros99 ,

Is the IP address '192.168.13.60' of a host that you are trying to add ?  Please connect to vCenter database and check if it has an entry for this IP address.

To connect to vCenter DB, you can refer this article --> Interacting vCenter appliance database

Once you are connected to the database, check the vpx_host table:  select * from vpx_host;

192.168.13.60 is my vcenter

192.168.13.50 has been add without problem (host with vmware vsphere 6.7U3), host licensed correctly

192.168.13.51 can't been add (vmware vsphere 7.0U1), host licensed correctly

how can i access the vm database? with wich tool?

So we need to check for host IP '192.168.13.50' in vpx_host table. You need to connect to vCenter appliance via SSH and connect to the database with instructions provided here --> Interacting vCenter appliance database
