5.5 to 6.5 without vCenter

How to migrate VM's to new host without vCenter ?

1 x ESXI 5.5

moving to ESXi 6.5

I've read the only ways (both would take time which is unavoidable), would be either:-

-Use standalone converter. (source host/destination (or)

- download  from datastore to local machine, then upload to new host/datastore

I'm thinking converter would be better because you just set it up, and off it goes.   however file server is over 2TB.. I read vCener may have issues, over that limit, but since we're using one of the two methods above, its probably not an issue.. Just would take a long time..

Although would be good to know if anyone has done this? I don't like surprises.

I'm also guessing i gotta upgrade hardware compatibility level on afterwards ?

Hi @TECH198 ,

Converter would be one option. Downloading files locally would work, however it fails some times or may end up with partial files.

If the storage where the VM resides is a SAN and not local, consider presenting the same storage to 6.5 host and registering the VM on it
