vSAN ready node with HY-6 Dell

Hi All,

Has anyone implemented  standard vSAN setup with Dell vSAN ready node on 1GB network. If yes, can anyone provide the Dell Part number for storage part i.e RAID controller, Boot device, caching and capacity tier. Sorry, Have  not worked on Dell before and getting online BoM is not easy for Dell compare to CISCO.

Regards,

Hi ,

You can use either BOSS or SD card boot option  with HY-6 Series

You can refer - http://i.dell.com/sites/doccontent/shared-content/data-sheets/en/Documents/Dell-PowerEdge-Boot-Optim...

Hi,

Thanks for sharing. I have this but i am planning to use front disk as boot device and when i select RAID controller from Dell Wesbsite, i am getting some compatibility error with RAID-1 and mix type of disks, for example, SAS SSD Boot device, SAS SATA Capacity and SSD for caching tier. Not sure, if dell support this config.

I do not understand what you mean when you write "as boot device"

Hi,

I want to have 2 SAS SSD as ESXi boot device in RAID-1, 1 SSD as caching tier and 4 * 2 TB 7.2 K RPM  SAS SATA disk as capacity tier. Does this support in Dell with single RAID controller. it does in CISCO.

Supported or not - I think this is the second question.

The first - for what??? SSD to RAID? I do not see the point.

Is not it better to install ESXi on a flash disk (1 or 4 GB)?

If you have 3 SSD and 4 SAS then create three groups.  In two on one capacity disk  and in the third - 2.

The presence of VSAN really increases the size of logs and consequently increases the risk of space shortage.

It's also worth noting that if the host has more than 512 GB, then the USB / SD size must be at least 8 GB.

Well, or you can use the recommendation https://docs.vmware.com/en/VMware-vSphere/6.5/com.vmware.vsphere.virtualsan.doc/GUID-E16CBDF3-790C-4...
